A few months ago, I saw a deal on "Yoller" (similar to Groupon, Living Social, etc.) and it was for a wine tasting at your home. I am always looking for a good excuse to host a party or have a get together, so I emailed a few girls and we all chipped in to purchase the tasting!
How it works: The hostesses are required to provide the glassware, the home, and the food pairings. After you sign up, your assigned wine consultant will email you asking for a head count, suggested wording for your Evite, the host home address, and shipping info. They will have your case of wine shipped to you along with the tasting menus. Your wine consultant will also tell you what food pairings to have on hand.
The hostesses each got to invite 2 people (you can't have more than 12 people in attendance) and we assigned everyone a food item to bring. These included various cheeses, fruits, strawberries, popcorn, and nuts. YUM! Check out that table!
Our consultant was Kristy and she was so great! She and her husband came over to set up and we had 6 tastings - 3 reds and 3 whites. They walked us through what to do in a wine tasting, the flavors to recognize, complimentary food pairings, and the region each wine was from. We could take notes on how much the bottle costs, if we liked the taste, etc. on our personal tasting menus.
After the tasting we were able to order any of the wines that we tasted or join their wine club. (Exactly the same process as you have in Napa) PLUS, we got to continue hanging out, eating, and finishing off our favorite wines from the evening. Overall it was such a fun and unique experience and well worth the money!
As you can see, we really attacked the food pairings table by the end of the evening :)
I would HIGHLY suggest doing this for a birthday party, a kickoff to a Bachelorette party, or just a fun girls night! We got our tasting for $60 because of the Yoller coupon, but I think they are normally around $100-$120. (split that up between several girls and its a great deal!) You can find out more info on hosting your own tasting HERE. Tammy is the regional rep and can answer any questions you may have.
