Happy Thanksgiving from Wimberley, Texas (Hill Country)
Welcome to our adorable cabin. We had an open lofted bedroom upstairs, 2 bedrooms downstairs, and an adorable open kitchen opening up into the living room. It was simple and perfect.
We got to Wimberley late Wednesday night after Logan and I worked (boo!) ... Thursday we woke up, watched the parade... and guess what... I found out that this year I would in fact be making the turkey!!!! (I have to admit, initially I was TOTALLY grossed out b/c when I eat turkey I don't actually envision the bird...but its hard not to when you are holding a 10 lb dead turkey in your hands like a baby...)
My mom's boyfriend Chris has taken some classes at El Centro and I think it's safe to say he has some mad culinary skills! He gave me step by step instructions on how to prepare this huge bird.
I think it turned out quite pretty!! and yummy! Chris also taught Logan how to carve the turkey... so next year combined we should have it taken care of ;) haha!
Miss Katy prepared lots of treats including pumpkin bars and pies! My mom gave us cute Christmas aprons to cook in all weekend :)
On Black Friday instead of hitting up the mall... we did some serious damage at the local wineries :) We went to Duchman and Driftwood in Dripping Springs...they were very different but both so fun! Here are a few peeks below... no lunch and wineries all afternoon made for a giggly bunch.
After the wineries, we went into Wimberly and shopped around. It was the cutest little town...felt almost like a movie set or something with cute little antique and handmade shops all lit up for Christmas. Katy got Seven jeans for $39!!! Dallas- whats up with your massive mark ups! (In the picture below w/ Logan- he was reading "Hillbilly Christmas" so that smile...its genuine, not staged. haha!)
We ended the night by playing Logan's favorite game from France- Beaver Gang and had champagne- the Evans girls drink of choice :)
Okay okay... I acted like we were too cool to shop on Black Friday...but we WERE only 15 minutes from San Marcos so on Saturday we went to the San Marcos outlets and did some Christmas shopping for 4 hours!!! Um San Marcos blows the Hillsboro and Allen Outlets out of the water... Check out all the shopping bags... and this was only after 2 stores... eek? guilty :)
This Thanksgiving was the first one without my G-Daddy and I have to admit- doing something totally out of the ordinary was a great thing for our family. We are now making NEW traditions and although I don't think we will do the Hill Country every year by any means...it was an absolute blast to shake things up and go have an adventure/ vacation together. We slept in until 11am, Logan swooned us with his tunes, the Aggies won (whoop), the Cowboys...well we won't talk about them, we played games, we laughed, we read, we told each other why we were thankful for each person. It was special. It warmed my heart. I am blessed and thankful.
Do you remember what cabin you guys stayed at?
